About IRL

Following the success of Innovation Management and Leadership Certification Program (IMLEAP) conducted in Turkey by Prof. Burak Acar from Bogazici University and Prof. Sultan Haider, Siemens Healthineers ITT, a protocol was co-signed by Bogazici University president Prof. Mehmed Özkan, the Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers Turkey Mr. Şevket On and CFO of Siemens Turkey Mr. Thomas Kolbinger, founding the Innovation Research Lab at Bogazici University in March 2018. IRL@BOUN is a member of the chain of IRL labs that was first founded at Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nurnberg. IRL labs are based on the concept of Innovation Think Tank labs at Siemens Healthineers and academic institutions attracting finest research collaborations working on inter-disciplinary challenges.

IRL@BOUN pursues a project oriented dynamic approach, unlike conventional research labs, and is based at TETAM (Telecommunications and Informatics Technologies Research Center). IRL@BOUN invites industry to submit R&D projects/challenges to be considered as collaborative inter-disciplinary research projects. The submitted projects/challenges are evaluated and multi-disciplinary teams of academicians, students and industrial experts are formed for the selected projects, as needed. IRL@BOUN offers the lab environment and top quality research capacity of academia. Each project's budget is formed separately and each project is run under a mutually agreed custom contract tailored for the needs of the parties and the technical requirements. Bogazici University, Technology Transfer Office (BU-TTO) supports IRL@BOUN for IP management.
